ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

In August 2014, FCI employees were summoned to perform the ALS Ice Bucket challenge when the parent of an employee was diagnosed with the affliction.  On Friday, August 29, 2014, in asnwer to the challenge, several Freehold Cartage employees gathered on the front lawn at the NJ terminal along with two bucket trucks filled with ice and water.  As the countdown ended, those trucks emptied their buckets full of ice water onto the waiting crowd.  Amongst hoots, hollers and screams, you could hear the sound of laughter and see stunned but satisfied smiling faces.  Funds were raised to aid in the campaign to heighten awareness of this debilitating disease.

What is ALS

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease" is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.  Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body.  The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death.  When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost.  With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.

50th Anniversary Celebration

Freehold Cartage, Inc. celebrated its 50th anniversary on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at their facility in Freehold, New Jersey with a gala picnic BBQ. Employees introduced their families, several for the very first time, to the
Blanchet Family, owners of FCI.

The picnic/BBQ area was decorated with tents, tables, chairs and 50th Anniversary Balloons. There was a raffle and nearly everyone went home with a gift – everything from coffee makers and cameras to a deluxe BBQ grill.

The Blanchet’s thanked all those employees for making this day so special and to all the dedicated individuals who made Freehold Cartage a success over that past 50 years.
